NID DAT 2014-15 Solution - Subjective - Buckets for Elderly People.

Well, Hello people. Recently, I came across a question from previous year's DAT.
The question asked us to design a bucket which is easy for elderly people to use.

Basically, to answer the question, I followed these steps -

  • Understand the present design of Buckets
  • Find out the problems with it.
  • Slowly, solve each problem with an Idea.
  • Put all the ideas together and making a draft design.
  • Finalize your design by troubleshooting any other problems which you have missed.
  1. Problem: Elderly people bend down to use a bucket because they may have back/Knee problems. They cannot lift a bucket filled with water as their arms do not k\have strength for it.
  2. Solution : The bucket must be placed at a height so that people wouldn't have to bend for reaching it. The bucket must be portable without using much strength (maybe should have wheels).
  3.  Design:  This is my design.

So, the last step is trouble shooting. I request you guys to find out any problems with the design and any additional changes. Please let me know about it in the comment section below. ☺

  1. satya how will you be able to fill the bucket at such height ??
you could have used a fork lift/jack screw kind of solution

which will rise of itself without much effort

ur solution lacks a key point that is how do we fill it ??

take this as positive criticism . your sketching skills is good

    1. The max height is 5 feet. The height is adjustable by using the rods below (as mentioned at 4). So, I do feel it is comfortable for atleast a majority of people. Anyways, thank you very much for your feedback.

  4. I guess the metal plate to store soap is very low... Old people have to bend to pick the soap... I think a small holder should be attached to the first round rod which holds the bucket instead of placing a metal plate below the bucket...
